Our Roots...

In 1917, a two-year project to build a power dam on the Zumbro River approximately 10 miles north of Rochester was initiated to provide the city with electricity. Two years later, the project was completed and in November of 1919, the dam was put into operation. From this endeavor, Lake Zumbro was born.
In the 1950's, the club began by putting on one weekend show every year. Putting on this one show required a lot of practice. In 1974, a major decision to do a weekly show was made. The people who influenced the decision were Bill Berg, Dave Bronte, Don Nietz, Holland Roberts, and Arleigh Benike. In 1975, the club entered its second year of weekly shows, and with a great deal of hard practice and dedication, acts were perfected to the point that the club started traveling to other cities to perform and compete against other teams. By 1976 the club was on its way to a 6th place finish in National Competition. The club has been noted for its dynamic, original pyramids.
We are now in our fourth decade as a team, and we have proven ourselves to constantly be one of the best teams in Minnesota. We look forward to this year with high expectations and to building on an already growing national respect.

What we do...

For many years the Rochester Water Shows has been a source of family entertainment for thousands of people in several cities in Minnesota and some of its neighboring states. Now our exposure is even wider, as we continue to include the following in our schedule:
  • Weekly Wednesday night themed shows at Fisherman's Inn on Lake Zumbro from early June through early September that will attract several hundred people per show.
  • Special performances on Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day at Fisherman's Inn.
  • Performances on Silver Lake in Rochester, MN for RochesterFest and the 4th of July.
  • Performance at Lake City, MN to help hundreds of people celebrate their city's history and the birthplace of waterskiing.
  • Appearances in parades in Rochester, Lake City, Pine Island, Mazeppa, and Zumbrota as a part of city celebrations and other special events.
  • Competition at the Midwest Region Show Ski Tournament and if qualified, competition at Division I National Show Ski Championships.

Why We do it...

We are a non-profit, all volunteer organization that strives to give something special back to a community that has given us so much.
Our membership is open to anyone interested who is willing to come out and give it a try. We have current stars in our show who came to us not even knowing how to swim!
We teach our skiers teamwork and how to present themselves to people. Two valuable assets for any person.
We are privileged to provide quality family entertainment for people in the Rochester area and in several other communities throughout the midwest.
Each year we compete successfully at regional and national competitions. We are a team and together we can reach our goal of becoming a premier source of entertainment in SE Minnesota and give our community something to be proud of!

Who we are...

More than sixty competition show skiers with a supporting cast of boat drivers, actors and announcers, costume and rope handlers, dock workers, audio/visual equipment operators, behind-the-scenes people, and a Board of Directors that brings our strength to approximately one hundred and twenty hard-working and enthusiastic members. The club also supports a Development Team that teaches young and old alike to enjoy the thrills of show skiing.
